'Educating
Eliza'
George
Bernard Shaw/Oscar Fovarge.
Educating
Eliza brings George Bernard Shaw's 'Pygmalion' into the 21st century.
Part One is a pacy version of Shaw's well known story of Henry Higgins and
Eliza Doolittle. In Part Two, notorious music producer and publicist Leo
Pygman ("The 'g' is silent!") hears Eliza Doolittle's great-great-grandaughter
sing at her independent school leaving ceremony. Impressed and enamoured
in equal measure, he is determined on a makeover. He will transform this
modern Eliza's perfect manners and cut-glass vowels into the demeanour of
a Top Ten, headline-grabbing, singer-celebrity. But who in this scenario
is exploiting whom, and why?
